Urban

In New York City, the nonprofit Teens for Food Justice has installed high-capacity hydroponic farms inside public schools in neighborhoods classified as food deserts. Each farm can grow up to 10,000 pounds of food per campus a year, grown, harvested, and distributed by the students themselves. A few miles away, Brooklyn Grange farms 140,000 square feet of rooftop space across Brooklyn and Queens, producing more than 80,000 pounds of organic vegetables annually. Space was never the real limit. The articles in this category look at what’s possible to grow once you decide the space you have is enough.
